Xiaohong (Sharon) obtained both her BSc in Applie Mathematics and MSc in Computer Graphics in China. She was awarded PhD on Modelling Colour Appearance in 1994 by Loughborough University, UK. Before taking the academic post as a lecturer in Middlesex University in 1999 and later senior lecturer/reader/professor, she had worked in UK NHS hospitals for a number of years. Firstly it was St. Mary's Hospital at Imperial College working on retinal images (1995-1997) and later at Addenbrooke's Hospital Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (1998-1999) at the University of Cambridge. Her current research interests include deep learning, medical image classification, image retrieval, colour imaging, and computer vision. She has been awarded many research grants as a principle investigator or a coordinator, among several other funding bodies by JISC , EPSRC , The Royal Society , and The European Commission .
