Middlesex University London is pleased to announce the British Council Early Career Fellowships for the 2025/26 academic year.
In total, up to 8 post-doctoral early career researchers (12-month each) will be fully funded to research related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects as a visiting fellow from countries of either South Korea or Philippines.
Fellows are exptected to start between October 2025 - March 2026 depending on their visa application status.
- Payment (stipend or bursary (ie. free of tax)): £ 36,000+ per year
- Return economy-class travel between home country and the UK
- Visa and insurance / NHS surcharge costs
- Related research expenses ( upto £ 10,000), e.g. travel, attending conferences and research activities within the UK
- Support for dependents
Initial Express of Interest (EoI) can be made by sending a full CV to Prof. Xiaohong W. Gao with "Fellowships" as the Subject title, including a brief description of proposed research related to the following areas.
The deadline for EoI is 15 June 2025.
- Computing in medical applications e.g. early cancer detection (lung, breast, skin, oesophagus, gastrointestinal tract ) or any medical applications
- Nature disaster prevention management e.g., flood prevention, fresh air management, global temperature management
- Digital twins technology in healthcare and climate change
- Computer vision, e.g., colour vision, human colour vision, colour appearcnce models, etc.
- AI technology, e.g. statistical learning, neural network learning, deep and transfer learning, feature extraction and classification, knowledge reasoning, etc.
- Be a passport holder and permanent resident in South Korea or Philippines
- Be an early career researcher, i.e. not holding a permanent academic post nor a post with a research-related element (e.g. supervising PhDs, submitting grant proposals)
- Not currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards any other programme in the UK from any other sources
- Meet the English language requirement of the UK HEI if applicable
- Have received PhD or is close to completion or having PhD equivalent experience of research
- Be active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area
- Demonstrate that you are willing to contribute in the future to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after completing the fellowship programme at Middlesex University London
- Agree to maintain contact with the British Council for purposes of monitoring and evaluation during and after your fellowship
- Demonstrate in your application a plan and a passion to engage other early career researchers in your home country
There are 6 to 8 fellows (12-month each) available with minimum of 3 from each country (i.e. South Korea or Philippines).
